In recognising our condition as human beings, we must act based on dignity, compassion, and respect. Not only is it possible to do more, but we must also take responsibility for our ecological footprint and assume what we can improve.
To raise our commitment to Nature, we created an internal Sustainability Committee in 2021, consisting of different people from different departments, to think, discuss, and implement measures across the whole company. With this initiative, we aim to be a 100% sustainable company with a purpose for People, Planet, and Business.
The year 2023 brought us some milestones:
Award given to small and medium-sized Portuguese companies recognised for their contribution to the national economy
53% of electricity consumed comes from renewable sources
14% of our energy comes from photovoltaic panels
We only wasted 3% of the material used to produce our plastic pots
100% of our packaging at Artevasi is FSC certified
100% of our internal printing is done on recycled paper
94% of our suppliers are national

Because change starts with each one of us, the Sustainability Committee has carried out some outstanding internal actions, such as:
Open Day
On 4 September, we held an open day for all our employees' children, where they got to see our facilities and the company where their parents work
Blood Donation
We joined the IPST (Portuguese Blood and Transplantation Institute) blood donation campaign, promoting solidarity with all those in need
Eletric Fleet
72% of our commercial fleet is electric, thus reducing annual fuel consumption by 58%
Seed the Future
In collaboration with SIRO, we held two workshops at a primary school and a social institution in Guimarães, cultivating the love for Nature among dozens of children
Green Week
In August, all Head Office employees worked remotely from home for a week to minimise CO₂ emissions
In 2023, we had some remarkable achievements:
PME Leader Award 2022
Expresso PME | Caixa Top
Cotec Innovative Award
Aliat Golden Awards - 3rd
The Sustainability Committee's targets include initiatives to ensure we are increasingly aligned on our green path.
2024 got off to the best start with two achievements, namely membership of Smart Waste Portugal and BSCD Portugal.
Smart Waste Portugal
A non-profit organisation aiming to create a nationwide platform that leverages waste as a resource. Above all, it promotes research, development and innovation, fostering and encouraging cooperation between the different entities, public and private, national and international.
Business Council for Sustainable Development
A non-profit association dedicated to helping its member companies on their journey towards sustainability through various key activities such as working groups, task forces and initiatives, training, communication, events and publications.
Likewise, we have joined the BCSD Portugal Charter of Principles, which establishes the principles that constitute the guidelines for good business management and promotes the adoption of solid sustainability commitments.
In addition, the Charter encourages us to go beyond legal compliance, adopting recognised standards and practices in line with ethical, social, environmental and quality management standards in any context of the global economy.
In addition to these memberships, we have two major objectives that we intend to fulfil this year:
Determining our carbon footprint
The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol establishes standardised and comprehensive global frameworks for measuring and managing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from public and private sector operations, value chains and mitigation actions. We thus aim to determine and communicate the carbon footprint of our products in a clear and, above all, certified way.
Incorporated recycled plastic
We are determining and certifying the content of recycled plastic in our pots, relying on the certification of an authenticated organisation to communicate and share these figures with our customers.
To ensure process optimisation, greater agility in product development and more streamlined production, ARTEVASI is certified according to ISO 9001:2015. In the environmental spectrum, we are certified by ISO 14001:2015, and we are implementing an Environmental Management System to improve our relationship with our Planet continuously.
